The village of Taevaskoja is situated in Põlva municipality in Põlva County.The village is in the northern part of the municipality and the middle of Põlva County.The northern boundary of the village is also the boundary between Põlva municipality and Vastse-Kuuste municipality.Before the Second World War this was the boundary between Tartu County and Võru County.The village is approximately 7 kilometres from the town of Põlva and the centre of the municipality.The distance to the city of Tartu is 42 kilometres.A railway line and a smaller highway traverse the village.The larger Tartu-Põlva Highway is 1.5 kilometres away.The convenience of the location allows its residents to commute to Põlva and Tartu for work.The bus station in Taevaskoja boasts considerable passenger traffic. There are also two passenger trains (four in the summer) that pass through the village every day.The neighbouring villages are Kiidjärve, Maarja, Himmaste and Mammaste. The population of Taevaskoja is 120.Taevaskoja has a library and store (open only in summer). Accommodation is offered by motel Salamaa (secret land) and Taevaskoja Tourism and Holiday Centre (organising also youth camps). Hiking possibilities are offered by Lättekoda and Puhka Looduses.
In the immediate vicinity of the village is Taevaskoja Landscape Reserve, renowned for its sandstone outcrops and beautiful nature.The most prominent sights are the Emaläte (Mother Source) spring, the Neitsikoobas (Virgin) cave, the Salakuulaja (Eavesdropper) stone, the Saesaare hydroelectric power plant and the Forest Brothers’ bunker
